ABOUT US

It began with a dream

Goco Goes began with a dream to spark joy in others by sharing incredible moments around the world.

Goco iS an Indigenous person with a blended ancestry from the African DIASPORA AND THE cANARY Islands. He spent over 10 years traveling the world, as an anthropologist.

A journey that began as a result of running away from his trauma became the story of self-discovery and healing.

in 2016 Goco served in the Peace Corps and lived in a village near the border with Haiti and the Dominican Republic.

Through those combined experiences, he created Goco Goes. a new way to travel that helps connect travelers with culture and nature.

FAQs

  • Ever seen fotos of places like Bali, Tulum, Oahu, Punta Cana, or Mykonos and think how do locals get so lucky?

Then you see more and more fotos. Each was filled with tourists, not a local in sight.

    Interesting.

then you see more fotos. and then each location becomes indistinguishable from the other. almost like a strip mall, but in a beautiful location.

This is the gentrification of touristy locations. Locals don’t live here, they work here. The only time you see them is in a servant role.

Goco Goes is about skipping this faux version of travel for the more real. the more in-depth.

We seek connection with people, places, and nature.

  • Goco Goes was founded by an Indigenous and Black family. We are not perfect, but through our collective experiences, we have gained a considerable amount of perspective and understanding of what it means to travel off the beaten path. And how to do it in a way that is beneficial and sustainable for us and the people we engage with locals/tourists alike.

Goco himself has spent over 10 years reconnecting with his Indigenous roots while also studying and learning from Indigenous and African diasporic communities across the Americas.

This treasure troth of knowledge is yours as it is his life goal to share and spread as much good will in this world. Through planting forest gardens, teaching people real-life skills in sustainability, and decolonizing mindsets through expanding perspective.

  • Decolonization is a multi-step process of an Individual or community to:

Deconstruct and Reconstruct our identity, history, cultural understanding, practice, and influence from the existing colonial paradigm into a more contextual existence in the name of our ancestral identity within a contemporary world.

Simply it means you have done the basic and foundational work to understand where your ancestors came from and what practices you still use today that came from them.

    Reconnecting

Reconnecting is the second phase. The act of pursuing an existence that not only acknowledges your ancestral culture, but that seeks to revive and live it authentically and truly you.

An example would be someone learning and practicing their ancestral language.

Someone learning and practicing traditional methods for cooking specific dishes.

Someone learning traditional dances and the culture behind the movements.

  • We seek travel experiences that include and in a way focus on broadening perspectives for the purpose of decolonization.

We also can create specific. tours that will allow you to gain connections with vital people in communities often overlooked by society.

This simple yet important detail can be your first true step into reconnection and decolonization.
